Job Summary

The post holder will work within Milton Keynes Specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service, providing a quality service to children / young people and their families.

To work as part of a team to provide specialist mental health services to children and young people with complex needs, working across boundaries of care, assisting in the assessment process where appropriate and providing short term intervention under the supervision of mental health professionals.

To hold caseloads as allocated by a clinician .

Main duties of the job

Provide emotional ,practical help, advice , short-term intervention to children and families

Offering short term evidence based intervention to children and young people.

Working closely with families to develop skills and techniques to manage children and young people who display a mental health disorder and associated challenging behaviour.

Taking all necessary precautions to safeguard the health, welfare and safety of patients, staff and families.

Attending regular supervision and support meetings and to develop the role of the team member in a positive and professional manner.

Act in a professional manner and as a good role model.

Support of the multi-professional team and encourage effective team working, implementing and maintaining high professional standards within and outside the team.

Participate in the implementation of induction programs for new staff.

To promote and maintain good public relations with all agencies e.g. Children’s Social Care and Schools within the community.

To be risk aware and participate in a process of dynamic risk assessment, including identifying risks to self, colleagues, patients and the service and actively contributing to an effective risk management plan.

Must be willing to visit children and families in a variety of setting.

To maintain clinical records as per trust policy.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 2 in Care or equivalent qualification or has a commitment to undertake within 2 years of taking up the post.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Knowledge of the Children’s Act
  • An understanding of a variety of clinical approaches.
  • Understanding of confidentiality in the workplace
  • Knowledge & experience of assessment and risk assessment
  • Ability to develop & maintain good standards of communication both orally and in writing with people

Others

Essential

  • Driving license / car user essential

Experience

Essential

  • Experienced in providing support to children and young with health and / Social Care needs.
  • Experience of supporting and enabling others to undertake day to day activities in order to maximise independence.
  • Experience of working in the community.
  • An understanding of the therapeutic relationship and boundaries
