Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and innovative pharmacist to join Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust as a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist & Independent Prescriber within Adult ADHD and Mental Health Services.
This role combines specialist clinical pharmacy practice in ADHD Services with support for Mental Health Services. Working within multidisciplinary teams, the post holder will provide medicines optimisation, independent prescribing and person-centred care.
The successful candidate will manage a caseload of adults with ADHD while supporting patients with severe and enduring mental illness. They will provide expert advice on ADHD medicines, psychotropic medication, physical health monitoring, complex pharmacotherapy and medicines safety.
Responsibilities include leading pharmacist-led clinics, supporting prescribing pathways and shared care arrangements, and contributing to service development, education, research and medicines governance. Working closely with clinical colleagues, the post holder will help deliver high-quality, evidence-based and cost-effective prescribing.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will manage a specialist caseload of adults with ADHD, providing independent prescribing, medication review, physical health monitoring and medicines optimisation. Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, the successful candidate will support adults with ADHD and severe mental illness across community and inpatient settings.
The role includes providing highly specialist advice on ADHD and psychotropic medicines, undertaking pharmacist-led clinics, supporting the safe use of high-risk medicines and contributing to person-centred treatment planning. The post holder will work closely with psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, primary care colleagues and pharmacy teams to improve patient outcomes and ensure the safe, effective and cost-effective use of medicines.
The successful candidate will also contribute to service development, shared care arrangements, quality improvement, education, research and medicines governance activities across ADHD and Mental Health Services.

Qualifications
Essential
- Master’s degree in pharmacy (MPharm) or equivalent qualification recognised by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Independent Non-Medical Prescriber qualification with evidence of active prescribing practice.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy, Psychiatric Pharmacy or equivalent advanced clinical qualification, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in Psychiatric Pharmacy.
- Leadership or management qualification.
- ADHD Assessment and Treatment Training UKAAN
Skills and Competencies

- Advanced specialist clinical knowledge of ADHD, psychopharmacology and mental health medicines optimisation.
- Confident and assertive when dealing with other professionals
- Excellent interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills including effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage a complex clinical caseload independently
- Excellent clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning and prescribing skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities. and to work under pressure.
- Competent user of electronic prescribing systems, clinical systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Significant post-registration experience in clinical pharmacy practice.
- Advanced specialist clinical knowledge of ADHD, psychopharmacology and mental health medicines optimisation
- Knowledge of NICE guidance and national policy relating to ADHD and mental health.
- Detailed knowledge of psychotropic medicines, prescribing governance and medicines safety.
- Experience undertaking complex medication reviews and medicines optimisation interventions.
- Experience of autonomous clinical decision-making, risk assessment and independent prescribing
Desirable
- Experience working within Adult ADHD Services.
- Experience managing ADHD medication initiation and titration clinics.
- Experience supervising pharmacists, pharmacy technicians or trainee pharmacists
- Experience supporting clozapine, lithium and other high-risk medicines services.
