Job summary
You’ll support people with communication and swallowing needs, helping them live more independently. You’ll work as part of a skilled speech and language therapy team delivering care across a range of community settings. This includes multi-disciplinary stroke services, clinics, home visits and a specialist outpatient videofluoroscopy service. Your work will make a real difference to people recovering from illness or living with long-term conditions.
Main duties of the job
What you’ll do:
- Provide adult speech and language therapy across community and clinic settings
- Support people with dysphagia and communication needs
- Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including stroke services
- Deliver care through clinics, home visits and specialist outpatient services
- Contribute to person-centred care plans and ongoing support
What we’re looking for:
- A qualified Speech and Language Therapist, or working towards registration
- Interest or experience in dysphagia and communication support
- Willingness to learn across areas such as stroke, frailty and neurodegenerative conditions
- Ability to work well in a team and across different settings
- A commitment to ongoing learning, with support from senior clinicians
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Post Graduate Diploma in relevant specialist area or Professional qualification to Degree level supplemented by specialist accredited training and experience in specialist field(s) equivalent to post graduate diploma level
- Postgraduate Dysphagia qualification and/or evidence of competence at the specialist level on the RCSLT Dysphagia competencies
- Current HCPC professional registration
- Current RCSLT membership
Desirable
- Leadership qualification/equivalent experience
Knowledge
Essential
- Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation and guidance relevant to clinical and service area
- Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area
- Specialist understanding of relevant clinical practice, standards and protocols within identified clinical area.
- Evidence of undertaking audits/surveys
- Basic IT skills
Desirable
- Member of specialist interest group/network, locally or regionally
- Develop to advanced/expert understanding of relevant clinical practice, standards and protocols within identified clinical area
Experience
Essential
- Evidence of sound post-registration professional practice
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at a specialist level of care
- Experience of multi-agency/professional working
- Experience of case load management within specialist service area
- Evidence of promoting/supporting active patient/relative involvement/participation
Desirable
- Experience of complex case load management within specialist service area
- Presentation skills/training experience
