Job Summary

We have an exciting for a Speciality Doctor post within our NHS inpatient drug and alcohol detoxification unit New Beginnings.

Aspire Doncaster Drug and Alcohol Services provide community and inpatient services.

We are looking for candidates with a passion for Addiction Psychiatry who would like the rare opportunity to work within an inpatient setting.

The post holder will have their own office, free parking, and administrative support. The post holder is supported by a full time Addiction Psychiatrist. The unit is also near the city centre, motorways and rail links.

This full-time post includes 2 sessions of Supporting Programmed Activities (SPAs), enabling the post holder to pursue CPD, service development, management, teaching, or research interests. There is a generous study leave allowance, a Mentoring scheme and there are Leadership and Development opportunities, including the opportunity to become an appraiser. Assistance with relocation is available in certain circumstances.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties/ Responsibility for Patient Care

1. Complete assessments of patients admitted to the unit. Complete a full history, physical examination.

2. Prescribe a variety of medications related to physical or mental health conditions, the detoxification and for any medical emergencies that arise.

3. Formulate and review detoxification plans according to the patient’s progress.

4. Be able to respond to manage medical and mental health emergencies related to the detoxification or existing health problems.

5. Input into twice daily MDT meetings.

6. Work with the ANP and Team leader in ensuring referral to the unit are appropriate.

7. When Consultant Psychiatrist is on leave review blood test results and sign batch prescriptions for the community.

8. Provide care to patients in the community in emergency situations.

To be part of clinical governance for Aspire Drug and Alcohol Services including quality improvement work

The Grounded Research team offers many opportunities to get involved in research at all stages of training and experience. The post holder will be able to take part in research

The post holder will be expected to engage in annual appraisal and subsequent revalidation to the schedule set by the GMC.

You will be allocated an appraiser on joining the Trust, the appraiser will change every three years.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full registration with the GMC and license to practice
  • Demonstratable postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part -time or flexible basis) at least two of which are in psychiatry

Experience

Essential

  • Ability to complete comprehensive assessments and form appropriate treatment plans including mental and physical health issues.
  • Experience of treating patients with substance misuse issues.
  • Demonstrate the ability to concisely, accurately and legibly record appropriate aspects of the clinical assessment and management plan
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with colleagues, including team working.
  • Maintaining good medical practice
  • Experience of teaching, and training

Skills

Essential

  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: . That applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English. . Have achieved the scores of 7.5 in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of these examples, they must provide supporting evidence
