Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced occupational therapist to join the Acute Neurosciences Therapy team. We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking and enthusiastic occupational therapist with a specialist interest in acute neurosciences to join the team. The post offers a broad range of experience in acute neurosurgery, neurology and spinal cord injury cohort of patients where you will work alongside a highly skilled and experienced MDT.

You will be actively encouraged to participate in CPD, research and audit, and service development projects, as well as provide supervision and teaching to junior staff, students, and the wider MDT. You will be supported by an experienced team of occupational therapists to refine your clinical and leadership skills in a variety of neurological conditions.

Main duties of the job

To work in the acute neurosciences therapy team to provide high quality, safe and effective occupational therapy services to patients as part of a cohesive multi-professional team.

To work collaboratively with patients and their carers to effectively assess, goal plan and treat patients following admission to hospital and strive to maximise their independence and quality of life.

To supervise and teach recently qualified occupational therapists, support workers and occupational therapy students.

To actively participate in quality improvement, clinical audit and research projects.

Person Specification

Essential and desirable

Essential

  • A degree in occupational therapy
  • Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council
  • Broad range of experience as a qualified occupational therapist including core areas, such as neurology, orthopaedics and older adults
  • Able to identify, assess, and effectively manage patients presenting with a broad range of neurological diagnoses
  • Able to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods
  • Able to support team members in their learning and development through providing good quality teaching, effective supervision, and meaningful appraisal
  • Experience of supervising students and support workers

Desirable

  • Membership of specialist interest group
  • Band 6 experience
