An exceptional opportunity to become a CESR Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine
We are delighted to offer three new Specialty Doctor posts in Emergency Medicine, specifically designed for doctors pursuing the Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR).
Yeovil District Hospital (part of Somerset NHS Foundation Trust) has a proven, highly successful CESR programme, with multiple doctors who have completed the pathway and are now practising as Consultants within our ED. You’ll join a supportive, hands on training environment with dedicated mentors, structured secondments and regular guidance to help you progress confidently towards the Specialist Register.
Main duties of the job
As a Specialty Doctor, you will:
- Provide high quality assessment, management, review and referral of ED patients.
- Lead in trauma and cardiac arrest situations where appropriate.
- Support junior doctors and be actively involved in teaching, simulation training and departmental education.
- Participate in governance, quality improvement, service development and audit.
- Contribute to effective and safe operational flow in the ED.
- Be part of a compliant rota using our self rostering Health Rota system, with a mix of early, late, twilight and night shifts.
Supernumerary shifts and induction time are provided at the start of employment.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- *Primary Medical Degree (e.g. MBBS / MBChB or equivalent).
- *Full Registration with the GMC and hold a licence to practice at time of applying.
- *UK ATLS/ ETC, ALS/EPALS or have arranged a place on a course.
- *Evidence of commitment to continuing Professional Development –willingness to undertake relevant courses.
- *MRCEM or equivalent
Desirable
- *Any of the FRCEM exams
Experience
Essential
- *Minimum of 5 years’ experience postgraduate with 2 years in Emergency Medicine and evidence of working currently at SAS/ST3 level or above in NHS not less than1 year.

- *Willingness and ability to fulfil the key elements of the job description
- *Evidence of interest and experience in teaching appropriate to medical students and Doctors in training and the multidisciplinary team (where required).
- *Willingness to use technology to improve standards of care and support to our patients
- *Evidence of a good standard of Literacy / English language skills
Desirable
- *Evidence of ability to analyse and diagnose situations and prioritise and act accordingly
- *Evidence of ability to develop effective Partnerships and team building
- *Evidence of commitment to pursue a career in Hospital Medicine or General Practice
- *Driving licence or ability to travel between sites
- *Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit principles and evidence of direct involvement in a specific audit in the last 18 months.
