An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Gastroenterology Directorate atCardiff and Vale University Health Board as a Specialty Doctor in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Intestinal Failure. This substantive post offers the chance to work within a friendly, highly specialised and academically active department that provides both local and tertiary services to patients across Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and Wales. The department delivers a comprehensive range of gastroenterology, hepatology, intestinal failure and advanced endoscopy services, supported by a multidisciplinary team of consultants, specialist nurses, dietitians and allied health professionals.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the management of complex inpatient gastroenterology, hepatology and intestinal failure patients, primarily based on Ward A7 at the University Hospital of Wales. The role also includes outpatient clinics, endoscopy activity, multidisciplinary team working and participation in service development, teaching, audit and clinical governance activities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will need to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care.They will need to agree levels of activity and throughput with the Clinical Lead and undertake annual appraisal and job planning as per UHB Policy. The post holder will be required to adhere to UHB Policy on maintaining Medical excellence and to be committed to maintaining their standard of performance by keeping knowledge and skills up to date. Inpatient ward duties and ward rounds, to include review of and acting upon investigation results.Helping ensure patient admissions run smoothly, efficiently and effectively by encouraging multi-disciplinary team working.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or recognised equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration with License to Practice
  • MRCP or recognised equivalent

Desirable

  • Academic excellence (prizes, merits, distinctions)

Experience

Essential

  • Four years full-time postgraduate training (or part-time equivalent), at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty or equivalent experience/competencies

Desirable

  • Assessment of emergencies

Essential

  • Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working
  • Counselling and communication skills
  • Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance
