Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative Speech and Language Therapist to join the Welsh Neuropsychiatry Service based at Hafan- Y-Coed, University Hospital Llandough. As a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, this post will enable you to further develop your clinical skills and, alongside the established multi-disciplinary team, shape the future direction of the service.

We are looking for a dynamic therapist who is passionate about holistic person-centred care, to deliver an innovative and effective speech and language therapy service to those patients referred for neuropsychiatric rehabilitation following acquired brain injury. The Welsh Neuropsychiatry Service is a specialist tertiary mental health service and has provision for Inpatient, Day and Community services. As such you will have the opportunity to work across the pathway with a highly specialist caseload of patients presenting with complex cognitive-communication, swallowing problems, emotional dysregulation and psychiatric comorbidity.

 

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work effectively in collaboration with the full multidisciplinary team to promote the development, planning and delivery of intervention programmes, working closely with other services and the patient’s support networks.

The post holder will provide advice, guidance and training to other professionals, including SLTs, in the specialist clinical area.

The post holder will undertake best practice projects, complex audits and research initiatives and provide clinical supervision/mentoring for more junior SLT’s and assistants.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Speech & Language Therapy professional qualification.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • Post Graduate training in dysphagia.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of working with a range of communication/swallowing problems.
  • Multidisciplinary team working.
  • Teaching/training of speech & language therapists and others.
  • Understanding of Neuropsychiatry

Desirable

  • Service improvement
