Job Summary

This role is one of several exciting new roles weve created to contribute to a successful, efficient, and effective Data and Insight Service. As a SQL Developer in the Council, you will get the opportunity to work with a wide variety and large volume of interesting and high-value datasets, and the work you do will directly contribute to improving health, social, and economic outcomes across Kirklees.

This is an exciting time to join us as we begin to assess and reshape the Councils data engineering and development practice. You will get the opportunity to work directly with high-value, high-impact datasets and support team members in exploring how we can enhance our offering through working with the latest technology (e.g., MS Azure). The role will be an instrumental part of a journey that includes embedding agile ways of working and providing support to key delivery teams across the data and insight service.

You will lead work on database design, development, maintenance, and management; utilizing modern and best practice development standards to seek out opportunities for efficiency, effectiveness, and innovation.

About You:

We are looking for someone who shares our energy and ambition for how data can be used to make a tangible difference to outcomes for people and places.

You will have proven experience in designing, building, and testing data products and services. You will have a deep understanding of the concepts and principles of data modelling and have experience of producing relevant data models across multiple subject areas with efficient and appropriate structures for business intelligence and analysis.

As a SQL Developer, you will be confident in your ability to develop, implement, and embed best practice standards, tools, and approaches, ensuring quality is central to everything we do. You will be committed to continuous improvement and have a desire to succeed individually and as part of a team.

About us

Kirklees is set in the heart of beautiful West Yorkshire and has a growing population of approximately 440,000. With the two major centres of Huddersfield and Dewsbury, it also encompasses several smaller towns. It is well served by both rail and road networks and is in close proximity to Leeds and Manchester.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • A degree which includes a strong data component (e.g. Computer
  • Science, Engineering, Statistics) or equivalent experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server tools including SQL
  • Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • Experience of working with various SQL standards (e.g T-SQL,
  • PL/SQL)
  • Knowledge and awareness of some of the core systems across the
  • Council. E.g. Liquidlogic LCS/EHM, Serverlec Synergy/Mosaic, SAP
  • ERP, OLM CareFirst.
