Support Time and Recovery Worker – HJVS: Sponsorship Available

Job Summary

The Birmingham & Solihull Health and Justice Vulnerability Service (HJVS) is a nationally recognised and multi-award winning team within BSMHFT.

Working primarily within adult outreach team, this role will mean working within the community as well as from Custody Suites around Birmingham, Birmingham Magistrates and Crown Courts and a variety of trust sites.

We are looking for a versatile and motivated person to join us to deliver a service to vulnerable individuals who are often the most marginalised within society.

STRs are a key part of the Health and Justice Vulnerability Service, as they assist clients who are typically hard to engage, building trust and a rapport to gain a holistic understanding of their circumstances and how to improve them. They assist service users by providing individualised support with solving practical problems or difficulties that may be affecting their health and wellbeing. They can also provide help and advise on housing, social isolation and exclusion, education, debt management and employment issues.

We are particularly looking for people who have experience in community and forensic mental health settings. Applicants with lived experience of the criminal justice system are encouraged to apply, however this is not essential criteria for this role.

Main duties of the job

We have a committed, motivated, hardworking and skilled team and offer excellent career development opportunities. The team holds a strong recovery focused ethos, and you will work alongside partner agencies, including the police, peer mentors, probation and court staff, to name a few.

You will need to be an excellent communicator, resourceful, creative and able to demonstrate resilience as you proactively support your service users and liaise with partner agencies.

• You will work in a team alongside peer mentors, other STR workers and registered practitioners from a range of disciplines.
• Many of our staff have lived experience of the criminal justice system. This is an intrinsic part of the service. Although it is not an essential part of this role, we welcome applicants with this background.
• You will manage a caseload of clients, aiding and encouraging their engagement with services. This may include clients considered “difficult to engage” or with behaviours that challenge.
• You will work with service users ‘ families and friends to ensure a holistic understanding of their circumstances.
• You will signpost service users to, and encourage engagement with, appropriate services.
• You will develop links into the community and agencies to enable improved, supported access to services.
• You will work flexibly, visiting custody suites, courts, and other locations in the community.
