Reports to: Senior Support Worker

Accountable to : Registered Manager – Manor Healthcare Domiciliary Care Agency

The person appointed will work as a member of a team of support staff in achieving the objectives of the scheme.

The scheme aims to assist clients to create and sustain a home in which they will be encouraged, assisted and supported to achieve maximum independence within the limits of individual ability.

KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Upholding and promoting the values that underpin the work of Manor Healthcare Domiciliary Care Agency.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies or challenging situations in accordance with Manor Healthcare’s policies and procedures, and relevant Trust protocols and guidelines.
  • Maintaining an awareness of responsibilities within Manor Healthcare Domiciliary Care Agency’s policy in reference to Protection of Vulnerable Adults, and Safeguarding arrangements.
  • Adhering to Manor Healthcare policies, procedures and guidelines as appropriate to the provision of service.
  • Assisting in providing a homely atmosphere.
  • Accompanying clients on outings/activities and holidays either individually or as part of a group as and when required.
  • Providing advice and support to clients in matters such as cooking, budgeting, personal hygiene etc.
  • Meeting the care needs of clients.
  • Participating in regular reviews of clients.
  • Observing and reporting unusual behaviours, accidents or incidents involving clients and dealing with these as appropriate in line with Manor Healthcare policies.
  • A willingness to support clients who may display challenging behaviours and may require the application of restrictive or physical interventions in a sensitive and appropriate manner, and in line with mandatory training and Manor Healthcare Domiciliary Care Agency’s Policies and Guidelines.
  • Adhering to the Manor Healthcare Domiciliary Care Agency’s Policies and Procedures on the administration of medication.
  • Adhering to the policies and procedures on the handling and keeping records of client’s finances.
  • Participating fully in the team approach to supported living by contributing to staff meetings etc.
  • Maintaining effective communication, written, verbal and non-verbal as required at all times.
  • Undertaking training relevant to the position.
  • Participating fully in Manor Healthcare’s Supervision and Performance Development and Review systems.
  • Undertaking night shift duties as required. Any other duties as required.
  • Working in collaborative manner with all professionals and agencies concerned and permitting access to, and cooperating with, and RQIA or Trust officials.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

The post holder will be required to:

  • Take responsibility for his/her own on-going learning and development, including full participation in Reviews/appraisals, in order to maximise his/her potential and continue to meet the demands of the post.

  • Understand that this post may involve overtime, and that this Job Description will therefore be subject to review in the light of changing circumstances. Other duties of a similar nature and appropriate to the grade may be assigned form time to time.

PERSON SPECIFICATION: ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • The ability to provide, in a sensitive manner, practical help and support to clients in all areas of social skill development, domestic skill development, personal care and emotional support.
  • An awareness of and a commitment to core care values as defined by the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) i.e. Respect, Dignity, Privacy, Independence and Individuality.
  • Satisfactory Enhanced Access NI check (to be completed on offer of employment)
  • Demonstrate a caring and respectful attitude.
  • Have a genuine commitment to working as part of a team within a caring environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 or above in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
  • Registered with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council.
  • An understanding of the principles of Supported Living.
  • Previous experience of working in care environment.
  • Experience of working with clients with challenging behaviours and intensive support needs.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
