Job Summary

The Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner will work under the supervision of a Clinician whilst working towards their qualification. They will undertake clinical assessments for Trauma and Orthopaedic patients, with a particular focus on spinal conditions. They will order and carry out investigations and initiate treatments within defined competence and protocols in collaboration with the senior clinicians and multi-professional team.

They will provide leadership and clinical support to nurses working in the service in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary and senior nursing team.

The successful candidate will rotate through all areas of Trauma and Orthopaedics.. This person will work within a team but also on their own initiatives, they should enjoy a fast-paced challenging environment.

Please also note this vacancy is a training/development post so all applicants will start at Band 7 rising to Band 8a once the post holder has successfully demonstrated the completion of the relevant

Advanced Practice Post Graduate Diploma, and a portfolio of evidence containing supervised learning events which demonstrate completion of the clinical element of the core curriculum outlined in the Multi-Professional Advanced Clinical Practice Framework (HEE 2017).

 

Main duties of the job

Direct responsibility for assessment, examination, investigation and diagnosis of patients within their area of work under direct or indirect supervision of a Consultant Mentor / supervisor.

Appropriately treat patients, resulting in the safe management and appropriate referral or discharge of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations.

Receive referrals via a variety of sources, including direct patient referral. Work within agreed protocols and working practices.

Participate in multidisciplinary clinics; participate in ward rounds, patient reviews and multidisciplinary team meetings.

Under direct supervision undertake a variety of clinical skills and provide treatment/ advice as per speciality and scope of practice, until appropriate level of competency achieved using agreed protocols of clinical practice and professional guidelines. This service may be provided within an acute secondary healthcare facility or in primary, community or home care settings.

Following completion of appropriate underpinning theoretical content and completion of competency assessment (within scope of practice) request and / or undertake diagnostic procedures and clinical investigations related to plans of care.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • Higher Education qualification in speciality field
  • Professional Registration NMC/HCPC
  • Candidates must have GCSE(grade 4-9)/O’level(grade C-A) in Maths and English or equivalent certificate of comparability via NARIC/ENIC(for applicants whose qualifications are outside the UK) or Level 2 functional skills.

Desirable

  • Non- Medical prescribing course

Knowledge

Essential

  • Advanced clinical practice skills
  • Evidence of research and audit

Desirable

  • Evidence of dissemination of knowledge in wider healthcare organisations
  • Evidence of implementing change

Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience at a senior level (band 6 or above) in a speciality area.
  • Experience of using multidisciplinary approach to patient care

  • Evidence of on-going CPD
