Job Summary

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust is an internationally renowned centre for the management of children with congenital and acquired heart disease.

We have a trainee position within the Cardiac Physiology department for an individual that is willing to challenge themselves in the rewarding world of paediatrics. This opportunity will allow progression from a band 4 to a band 5 role with the development of skills in non-invasive cardiac diagnostics, rhythm analysis and exercise testing.

Experience working in cardiac physiology with knowledge of cardiac non-invasive diagnostic testing is desirable. Paediatric experience is not essential.

 

Main duties of the job

ECG Department

  • Perform ECGs, recognise and interpret abnormal rhythms
  • Setup, fit and analyse Holters, event monitors and BP monitors
  • Uploading of Holter/Event monitor reports to Epic with appropriate escalation

Exercise Department

  • Room set-up, calibration of CPET machine and crash trolley checks
  • Lead and report on all tests performed in the exercise room including: ETTs, CPETs, Ajmaline and Adrenaline protocols (NB experience in CPETs/Ajmaline and Adrenaline protocols are desirable for appointment to this role)
  • Knowledge of departmental protocols including contraindications to exercise testing in paediatric

Other responsibilities

  • To demonstrate a positive attitude to the team and contribute to developments within the department
  • To be responsible for the accurate inputting, archiving, and updating of all clinical data into the Cardiology Information Database (Epic)

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) OR relevant science degree

Desirable

  • SCST Certification
  • Basic Life support

Experience/Knowledge

  • Experience fitting ambulatory Holter and blood pressure monitors

Desirable

  • Experience working/assisting in exercise testing
  • Able to analyse Holters/cardiac monitors

Skills/Abilities

Essential

  • Must be able to communicate well with others with the ability to work flexibly as part of a team
  • Good time management skills
