Trainee Dialectical Behavioural Therapist: Sponsorship Available

Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a trainee Dialectical Behavioural Therapist at Band 6 AfC level. The role will involve undertaking a post graduate diploma in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy. The offer of post to the successful applicant will be contingent on acceptance on an accredited training course. On achieving accreditation, the post holder would be upgraded to a Band 7 Psychological Therapist role and salary.

Applicants will be required to have either RMN or equivalent mental health core qualification at degree level post 1993 and be registered with a professional regulatory body. They will have experience of delivering psychologically informed interventions to people experiencing severe mental health problems in a secondary care setting. They will be required to have a strong demonstrable interest in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and to have completed DBT training with a licenced DBT training provider to either Foundation (five days) or Intensive (10 days) level. We would also consider applicants with Essential Skills (2 day) training or TEWV Introduction to DBT (3 day) training. A willingness to engage in further study and practice towards eventual accreditation as a DBT therapist is essential. During training, placement outside the Scarborough locality may be required.

Main duties of the job

The post will focus in the first 2 years on undertaking the Dialectical Behavioural Therapy post graduate diploma, as a DBT therapist in training the role will involve carrying out the following tasks under close supervision.

1. Delivery of a comprehensive DBT programme

• Pre-treatment and engagement
• Individual DBT Therapy
• DBT skills training group
• Inter-session telephone coaching

2. High Risk Management & Assessment

• Risk formulation
• Crisis Intervention
• Safeguarding

3. Consultation, peer support & MDT collaboration

• Weekly DBT consult team
• MDT integration
• Specialist advice

4. Leadership, Training and Governance

• Supervision
• Service evaluation & audit
• Record keeping

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

• Working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems
• Working in multi-disciplinary team settings Demonstrates high standards in written communication
• Able to write clear reports and letters to referrers

Desirable

• Experience of providing psychological wellbeing interventions

Qualifications

Essential

• A qualification that leads to registration with a professional regulatory body (HCPC, GMC, NMC or Social Work England)
• AND current registration with this professional regulatory body. (If a different regulatory body please seek advice from Chief Psychological Professions Officer)

Knowledge

Essential

• Risk assessment and risk management
• Clinical governance
• Legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
