Mental Health in Schools Support Team (MHST) Educational Mental Health Practitioner
X4 Posts Band 4 Full-Time
City & Hackney CAMHS are excited to be recruiting to 4 x full time posts as Educational Mental Health Practitioners in Schools Support Team. This service commenced in September 2019 and it has now received funding to increase the number of MHSTs in City & Hackney as part of Wave 14 roll out January 2026.
In line with the government’s priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) role is an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across both educational settings and healthcare sectors in England.
Successful candidates will be offered a full-time educational programme specifically for the role. The course fees are fully funded, and the salary support for the job post will be funded at NHS Agenda for Change (AfC) at beginning Band 4. You will gain credits towards completing with a postgraduate degree diploma level qualification, with potential for employment on completion of training with a starting salary projected to be based on the NHS AfC Band scale. Re-banding to Band 5 will be subject to successful completion of diploma.
NB. A permanent position cannot be guaranteed within City & Hackney CAMHS post qualification, however it may be possible depending on the service needs at that time.
Main duties of the job
Under supervision and with support, to develop knowledge and practice skills in:
Delivering evidence-based intervention for children and young people,with mild to moderate mental health problems, in an education setting.
Helping children and young people within these settings who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist service.
Supporting and facilitating staff in education settings to identify, and where appropriate, manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing.
Working with and within educational environments to *afford better access to specialist mental health services
To evidence development of those skills with associated knowledge acquisition to record and evidence progression towards an academic award and demonstrable practical ability.
