An opportunity has arisen for a trainee Respiratory Physiologist to join our progressive respiratory physiology team at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Our service offers a range of respiratory investigations, including spirometry, gas transfer, lung volumes, reversibility testing, 6-minute walk tests and nebulised antibiotic challenge testing. Our sleep service offers limited respiratory sleep studies and overnight pulse oximetry with plans to expand in the future.

We are looking for a highly motivated, forward thinking team member who can demonstrate competency in the field. Training will be provided with the expectation to undertake ARTP Practitioner exam level III. You will also be encouraged to undertake a Graduate Diploma in Respiratory Physiology in conjunction with Sheffield Hallam University or UWE Bristol if appropriate.

Experience and underpinning knowledge of basic lung function and investigations of sleep disordered breathing is desirable.

Starting salary will be paid at Agenda for Change band 4. Successful applicants will be offered a band 5 Healthcare Science Practitioner position on completion of training and clinical competencies. The successful candidate will be supervised when carrying out all clinical activity throughout the course of the training programme. Level of supervision may be direct or indirect as per skills and competencies.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in a science related subject 2:2 or above.

Desirable

  • Professional qualification relating to healthcare science

Skills and knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, combined with ability to work under pressure.

Desirable

  • Competent use of various IT applications and programmes.
  • Commitment to complete academic and professional qualifications

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a person facing role

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting

Physical Skills

Essential

  • Ability to perform a wide range of duties according to the job description
  • The ability to cope with potentially distressing or emotional circumstances including medical emergencies.
