Job Summary

We would like to recruit a trainee sonographer (Band 5/6) to join our ultrasound team starting January 2026. We are looking for an candidate who is looking for a career change and has a keen interest in ultrasound.

Training will be for 1 academic year to achieve the Post Graduate Certificate in General Ultrasound. On completion of the course, as a Band 7 sonographer you will be part of the team delivering ultrasound services to the Community Diagnostic Hub at Northwich Infirmary.

There will be rotation to Leighton to maintain competency with inpatient scanning, and also the opportunity to work in the Community setting if desired.

 

Main duties of the job

The first year will involve focussing on achieving the Post Graduate Certificate on a CASE registered course at either Salford or Cumbria University.

This will require commitment to your practical training which will be provided at Leighton Hospital by your mentor and sonographer colleagues. Your academic training will run alongside this and you will be expected to dedicate your time in work and outside of work to achieving a successful outcome.

Only on satisfactory completion of the course and subject to acceptable practical assessments will you be promoted to Band 7. At this point you will work mainly at the CDH providing ultrasound services to the surrounding community.

Employment history and qualifications

Essential

  • Must have worked as a radiographer in the UK for at least 1 year in an NHS hospital.
  • Must have achieved a minimum of 2:1 at undergraduate level
  • Must be HCPC registered

  • Must be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of ultrasound
  • Must be reliable and punctual
