We are unique in that the Diabetes Dietitians within the adult and paediatric services are one united team meaning that evidence and practice can be aligned and robust. There is an excellent opportunity for CPD as the job is diverse with many opportunities for learning.

You’ll benefit from a diverse caseload that includes ward visits, home visits, and outpatient clinics for patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. You’ll also contribute to the delivery of a wide range of structured diabetes education programmes.

Main duties of the job

The (Trainee) Specialist Diabetes Dietitian – Adult and Paediatric – will provide specialist dietetic assessment, advice, and counsellingto a varied caseload of patients across both age groups. As a key member of theMultidisciplinary Team (MDT), the post holder will contribute to collaborative care planning and decision-making.

They will take the lead on the dietetic component of structured diabetes education for patients and their carers, empowering individuals to manage their condition and enhance their quality of life, including Roche carbohydrate counting course, Xpert Training and specialist dietary support to pregnant women with diabetes, ensuring safe and effective nutritional care throughout pregnancy.

Flexibility is essential, as the post holder will work across three MDTs:adult acute, adult community, and paediatric diabetes services, adapting to the needs of each setting while maintaining high standards of care.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc or post graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • HCPC Registration
  • Evidence of relevant CPD

Knowledge and Training

Essential

  • Excellent understanding of aetiology and management (dietary and medical) of all types of Diabetes

Desirable

  • Diabetes structured education qualifications

Experience

Essential

  • Good Knowledge and experience in managing patients with nutrition related conditions such as malnutrition, diabetes, obesity & coeliac disease.

Desirable

  • Experience of delivering education sessions to other dietitians, patients or healthcare professionals; to be able to engage others to learn
  • Experience of working closely within the MDT and have the necessary team-working skills to do this effectively. Experience of facilitating patient-centered MDT meetings and having holistic understanding of the clinical, social and ethical considerations of complex chronic conditions
