SENIOR Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine

FULL TIME

twelve month fixed term contract

We are delighted to invite applications for a 12-month fixed term post in Emergency Medicine. The successful candidates will join The Royal London’s team of Emergency Medicine senior clinical fellows. The post is for candidates with at least 2 year post graduate experience in emergency medicine looking for further experience in a well-supported teaching hospital and major trauma center environment.

Planned start date is February 2027 or as soon as possible after.

The successful candidate will join a friendly, highly motivated, consultant led team delivering high quality emergency care to East London. The department receives a full range of emergencies from the local area in addition to major trauma from North East London and Essex with a total of 180,000 patients seen each year.

Main duties of the job

The post includes registrar (ST3+) level duties in the emergency department working on a full shift rota. Clinical duties are supported by 24/7 consultant presence, senior training registrars and a team of junior doctors and practitioners.

The post includes 20% non-clinical time which will be dedicated to an area of special interest, to be negotiated by successful applicant(s) in the field of emergency care. Recent examples include ultrasound, education, and quality improvement. All clinical fellow posts have parity in clinical supervision, development and training with training posts.

Many of our previous fellows have been successful in gaining emergency medicine national training posts in the region, as well as going on to take fellowships with the Physician Response Unit and local HEMS services.

Candidates must hold full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice and must have NHS experience.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent degree
  • Full MRCEM or equivalent
  • Life support courses such as ALS, ATLS/ETC, APLS etc

Desirable

  • FRCEM

Experience

Essential

  • 2 years of experience in Emergency medicine and/or allied specialities, of which at least some must be in the NHS
  • 3 months of experience in Anaesthetics and/or ITU services

Knowledge

Essential

  • Motivated and able to work independently when required
  • Work well in a multidisciplinary team
  • Caring, compassionate and respectful of patients and colleagues
  • Ethos of lifelong learning and a desire to continually gain and improve knowledge and skills

Skills

Essential

  • Communicate effectively with patients and colleagues
  • Able to produce clear and concise computer written clinical notes including structured clinical coding, and communicate effectively through written documents
  • Ability to prioritise own work and that of others without senior support
  • Experience in delivering medical education to colleagues and/or students

Desirable

  • Experience in use of point-of-care ultrasound
  • Experience of having led and delivered a QI project

Other

Essential

  • The post holder be required to work a clinical shift rota designed to meet emergency care demand. This will include day, evening, night and weekend shifts
